Workplace First Aid Kits
ANSI Standard Z308.1-2021
First Aid Readiness for a Safer Workplace
Based on Federal OSHA Regulation Standard 1910.151.b: “Adequate first aid supplies shall be readily available.” This rule applies to treatment of minor injuries that occur in the workplace.
OSHA-ANSI to be OSHA compliant a first aid kit must have the required minimum fill according to standard ANSI Z308.1-2021.
The 2021 ANSI revision introduced two classes of first aid kits. Class A kits are designed with contents to deal with more basic type of workplace injuries. Class B kits have a broader range and quantity of supplies to deal with injuries that are in a high risk facility, larger workforce population and more severe injury.
Automatic External Defibrillators – AED’s
Life-Saving Solutions for Every Workplace
Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is NOT a heart attack. SCA is a condition that causes the heart to unexpectedly & abruptly quit beating This is usually caused by an abnormal heart rhythm called ventricular fibrillation (VF).
Each year, approximately 10,000 sudden cardiac arrests occur in the workplace, contributing to nearly 13% of all workplace fatalities. Fast access to lifesaving equipment like AEDs is critical — immediate defibrillation can dramatically improve survival rates. Establishing an AED program strengthens safety programs and demonstrates commitment to compliance and care.
Eyewash Stations – ANSI Z358.1-2014
Emergency Eyewash Solutions That Meet Safety Standards
When working with hazardous materials in settings like factories and laboratories, it’s crucial to ensure personnel safety with the availability of emergency eyewash stations. They serve as a last line of defense and must be visible, accessible, and functional to quickly treat exposure to harmful substances.
The ANSI/ISEA Z358.1-2014 standard sets the minimum requirements for the performance and use of this equipment. OSHA’s federal requirement (29 CFR 1910.151(c)) mandates suitable facilities for flushing eyes and bodies where corrosive materials are present and often refers to the ANSI standard as a key guideline.
